Mr. Grovenburgh Passes On Jan. 27

Elm Flats - This community was saddened by the death of U.E. Grovenburgh on Jan. 27. He was one of Elm Flats pioneers, having lived in this district practically all of his life except for a few years spent in Ludington, after his decling years forced him to give up farming and he sold his large farm. About six years ago they moved back to this distric, and at the time of his death resided on a small farm, one mile north of the school, which they had purchased and fixed into a comfortable home. There he was surrounded by old friends and neighbors, while he was confined to his home by failing eyesight during the past year. He was a prominent man in this township, having served as supervisor, drain commissioner and a member of the school board, each for several years while he was farming. He was united in marriage to laura Russel on Oct. 5, 1890, and they enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary with a party at the Fountain Community hall on Oct. 6, 1940, lwith their relatives and many firends who will mourn his passing. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. Having been a faithful member he received much comfort through this source during his last illness. He was 71 years old.

He leaves to mourn his loss his widow and their only child, Mrs. Earl Leavitt, and four grandchildren and one great-grandson besides nephews and nieces. The funeral will be held at the Stephens funeral home at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan 30. He will be laid to rest in the Sugar Grove cemetery.
